A construction worker approached me with a found wallet in front of our "house" and asked me if I knew the person it belonged to. I didn't, but he gave me the wallet anyhow. I took the wallet to the police station downtown, which was easy to spot, as it was elegantly lit with neon signs. I approached the front counter with wallet in hand and was hesitantly greeted by the woman at reception. I told her I had found a lost wallet, and wanted to turn it in, by recommendation of a representative of her bank. She took my name, and penciled a detailed description of the events surrounding my acquirement of the wallet, and returning it. She instructed me to wait patiently in the lobby until an officer summoned me for further questioning. I turned and was greeted by the eyes of a man around my age, perhaps a little older, with long, dark, greasy hair, and matching beard. He was dressed in black from head to toe, an outfit that had obviously been worn, uninterrupted for a lengthy amount of time. His voice caught me off guard. "Seems awfully difficult to be a good samaritan anymore." I awkwardly laughed and agreed: "I suppose." He added: "The more you see, the closer you become to sitting where I'm sitting." I didn't respond. He then offered a lightness to the mood by making a few quips about there being cash in the wallet, and some more obvious commentary on natural reaction. He was then summoned out of the room, and I to another counter. I eventually handed in the wallet to the appropriate authorities and was offered a receipt. I politely denied the receipt, as it was not my wallet. I left the police station and passed the man in black once again, who asked me for a light. He thanked me twice, and offered me a cigarette that was obviously pulled out of a nearby ash tray or garbage can moments before. I denied it. He told me I would be rewarded, and I told him I was entitled to nothing, and joked that if anything comes of this occurrence, it would be a mere test of karma. He replied "It is karma, just not the way you choose." The point of this story is not to parade something that would be interpreted as a selfless act, or to inform you of how good of a samaritan I can be, but merely an interesting portrait of truth, and justice. Its not a story of how bizzarre or corrupted the concepts are, but rather how surprising their vessels can be. Mind, your head.

Live Shoot

We had the pleasure of shooting a live video of The Great Saboteur wednesday night with the help of our friends Ryan Girouard, Brock Bowers, and Erich McVey. Again, thank you guys so much for your dedication, help, and support. We are really excited to see how it turns out. We wanted to make a sweet looking video, but not play to a track. I think we all find it more exciting and meaningful if we capture a true live performance, so i mic'd everything up, and we recorded a true live performance. I mixed the audio yesterday for some hours and it turned out great. We will let you know when it is finished and y'all can check it out. We have never done anything like this before so it was quite the fun experiment. You learn a lot about yourselves when you see video playback. Apparently i have demon eyes. I apologize for this, it's my moms fault. More to come soon! i am listening to what could very well be the final mix of the full length album this very second, which is swell. I will try to keep updating on the progress, we are really going to need your support when we have our release party, hope to see everyone there.

Thank you to all of you that made it out to the show at the Grand. It was a really fun time, with many great bands, lots o' music. What more could you want in an evening? Here is a small update. We just finished tracking the final song on the full length record. Kind of. There some bits and pieces that need filling in. After many listens, finding imperfections that need re-done. Some imperfections are cool. Just the ones that make my brain and ears hurt. We don't know a lot of details about the release of this record yet. I will say that we have decided on putting on a whopping 14 tracks. It's a lot. We're excited. All new songs. No re-releases. Stay tuned friends.

The Great Saboteur.

Hello friends and lovers. As you may know, Symmetry/Symmetry has been tracking a full length record for the past nine months or so. It is definitely going wonderfully, and it has been a fun little journey. We are now in the mixing stage, for the most part. Some songs need a little more tender care, and rough love than others, but all in all we're definitely pushing ahead. We would like to share with you one song that we enjoy playing and hearing, which has been one we've been playing for some time now. I believe we wrote it right as we began tracking this album. Oddly enough, it's also the last song we've written together that i can remember. Anyhoo, enough gab. We are posting it tomorrow (monday) morning and hope you enjoy it. If you read this blog than you get first news dibs. I forgot to say that the song is called ''The Great Saboteur" and for some reason instead of editing my post, i would rather just add this awkward ending statement as i remember my negligence. Dear faithful friends & foes.

Our rehearsal's have been killer lately, being almost weekly and full of brand new rocking material. Our rule of having "no rules" is actually holding up rather well. The songs seem to be coming out so quickly that we're at that point where half the new songs that will be on the album are nameless, so we know them by key or time; "Joel's B song", "Joel's Dm song", "Daniel's G song", "5/4", "Joel's crazy song where daniel does crazy guitar loop", etc, you get the point...

So daniel emails us a few weeks back and says something like, "hey guys, want to play a bar show in lebanon in a few weeks and make lots of money?" My initial, mental response is, "what the hell, i do the booking for the band...not you. and where is lebanon?" Lebanon is about 10 minutes east of I-5 half way between Salem and Eugene. But after a few seconds of human nature, I chilled out and responded, saying, "yea, i'm free sept. 6th." A week later, out of a fit of my unorganized booking catastrophic issues, I texted daniel for direct contact info so I could confirm all the details for our show. In the back of my mind is the constantly lingering word, "sketchy." Daniel lets me know the name of the venue, hence the title of this blog, "Sherman St. Bar & Grill - we're confirmed"

Still, in my search for confirmation and organization, I google "Sherman St. Bar and Grill Lebanon OR" - the most relevant results I found were newspaper articles on Sherman St. Bar's sketchy treatment of underage customers. An overall consensus by the community that this business should lose its liquor license. But my real search was for a phone number or email, which i could not locate.

Fast forward three days to the day of the big show. Lebanon Oregon's very own Sherman St. Bar & Grill. The three of us are trying to sync up for a last minute rehearsal to try to hammer down versions of our new material to fill our 3 hour time slot. Daniel texts me this; "i am trying my hardest at this point to cancel the show, it's getting shadier by the minute" - I call him and we discuss the pros and cons of supposedly not having a PA system and the outrageous idea of renting a PA last minute and hauling an extra car down to transport it all. NO. So we call off the show, but rehearsal still sounds fun.

After rehearsing for a solid hour, daniel gets a call at 7pm. Jeff at Sherman St. wants us to come down and play. He says there's a mixer and some speakers and it should work and we should still play. So, as Joel and I sit and wait, we hear Daniel tell Jeff on the phone, "sure, we'll come down and see if it works and try our best to make it work." Load up the cars, pack up the gear, we've got a show in 2 hours. I call my father and let him know the news, he wanted to ride down with me and check out the new stuff.

We arrive at the Sherman St. Bar & Grill around 8:30, we made good time. Sherman St. Bar & Grill is home to the typical Pool Table, grungy, smokey, hick bar that you see in films. Daniel was asked about the show through his father who is friends with Jeff. Upon arrival, my father finds that he is also acquainted with Jeff through work. Things are looking up. We brought adequate mics, stands, cables for our set-up in case the mixer actually would amplify our keys and vocals. Joel and I loaded gear in as Daniel fiddled with the random equipment in his attempt to conjure up a working amplification system for the show. After about 45 minutes, a bad test mic and cable, and an order of fish & chips, we've got a working PA and our stage is ready to rock/n/roll.

Some level checking and we sound check the chorus of "lines" - After this, I hear a yell from a customer, "yea" - next, we sound check a different vocal mic. with a verse of "5/4" - after this, I hear a mutter from the crowd, "no, next one..." - Daniel mumbles to me, "not that fucking shit, come on..." - You see, we all new what we were getting into, and we were all a little tense and hesitant toward the evening...

because we were planning on playing for 2 hours, we decided against mapping out a set list and were going to play song by song. Our set begins with "My Sister/My Friend" - a song we've been playing often for over a year and one of our favorites from what will be on the new album. I was thinking, it's enough rock/n/roll with a little bit of beatles influence that it might be promising to the seemingly classic rock type audience. daniel immediately moves into a little ambient interlude that leads into a new song, "daniel's G song" (as previously mentioned.) This might be our favorite of the new ones, it's very groovy and it felt very very right. daniel came up with a great melody and lyrics on the spot making it a debut success. at this point, we were feeling great about the on-stage sound and that we were going to be able to please this crowd. i suggested next, that we play "Joel's Dm song" (also, as previously mentioned.) it's kind of swing rock/n/roll with heavy guitar and big drums, it was a sure lebanon pleaser. People seemed semi-interested, but ultimately un-enthused. we then moved into something more artsy, which may have been the deciding wrong turn of the night, "wedding song" - like sister/friend, one of our recent favorites that will appear in full on the album. (see live youtube video below.) Daniel stayed on the keys and did his little solo doodle (with brief rhythm-section accompaniment), "Benjamin Bradley" - during "wedding song" and "benjiman bradley", we were specifically noticing many customers in the bar slowly trickling outside to suck their cigarettes in undisturbed silence, where talking is easy. we decided to turn it up a notch and play our long time symmetry/symmetry essential, "turn to speak" - As we finished "turn to speak", our fathers approached the stage and told us that the people are wanting our "most upbeat songs" - we all felt really good about our set so far, and we were having a blast, daniel turns to me and whispers, "this is a fucking great show, what the hell?" - we decide to pull out an old gosling-esque rock/blues tune, "sweet as they may(be)", after which we played one of our most recent favorites, a new one that we debuted in June, "5/4", still yet untitled. It was gorgeous and we felt great about it. It was fun. Before we could decide what to play next, Daniel's dad approached us with an envelope and whispered to daniel, "the manager wants you to have this and is asking if you guys could call it quits for the night, it's just not working." feelings of being compromised and unappreciated were strongly flowing through my body, utter rejection. We began unplugging and tearing down, i opened the envelope to find $300 and said to myself, i don't like playing for money. we took advantage of some free drinks while we were at it and headed home, our set cut short, the first time ever not performing "le fin" and "i am not anaemic" in a set.

Moral's of the story include, but are not limited to; "if you try your best, you'll succeed." - "money is the root of evil."

we played a fun "mini-tour" w/Scott Ryan. It was great. My girlfriend took this video at our last show in Seattle, Wednesday June 25th. "Wedding Song" is one of our favorite songs to play right now, it has felt right lately. anyway, enjoy this.

In The Studio - Day 4

Hello interweb. My name is Joel. I am a member of the angst ridden rock trio 'Symmetry/Symmetry.' This is my first post on internet, so look out for some shocking things to happen.

We successfully completed our first drum tracking session today...hooray. Andrew pounded out (literally) his parts to 3 songs we hope to put on the record. He did very well, you all should be proud of him.

Here he is all mic'd up and errrything...cute!

Unfortunately, we did have some obstacles along the way. Even though Daniel was crawling around trying to fix things for a long time, he provided something pleasant to look at...HOTT!

We had two friends named Billy come visit us today at separate times. It was nice and ironic (because they both have the exact same name).

Now I'm sitting and listening to Daniel mix drums for 'My Sister/My Friend' they sound very good and hip-hoppy.

I will leave you all with this picture. You see, Danny is all mad about the audio machinery not co-operating, and I wanted to experiment with the auto picture-taking features on my Kodak EasyShare C743 camera. I thought it would be the most fun to sneak into the picture without Danny noticing. I think you'll find that it made for a very creepy picture!

In The Studio - Day 3

Hello. We just got back from playing some terribly fun shows with the scott ryan crew, as well as norman. They are both quite fun and kind. We are back in the studio today and writing some more things. tonight will be the first night for andrew to track some drums, i think he's excited. a moment ago he was eating a bagel with hummus on it, and he dropped it on the floor, smearing the hummus on the carpet whilst extracting hairs, lint, and dirt which became enfused into his delicious bagel snack. he ate it. so i would like to get back to work now, but thought i would let you know that there is, or will soon be a youtube video of us playing in seattle. it's the wedding song. it's a cool venue, so i hope you like it. well i will leave you with some pictures. bye now.

In The Studio - Day 2

Hello again. It is friday the thirteenth. Isn't that scary? ya. i thought so. I got some new microphones in the mail last night. Always exciting. We mic'd up Joel's drum set and started recording some side project stuff. Andrew is very upset about it. I tried to tell him it isn't personal, it's just that Joel and I have a bunch of material that's just not really symmetry/symmetryish. So it would be a waste to not record it. You know? it's not like we are cheating on you Andrew. Or should i say..... Amerging. Anyhoo, i believe i mentioned last time that the studio is located in the center of an old mortuary, and i thought it would be fitting to post some scary pictures of what the rest of this place looks like. Or at least the basement. This place is very creepy at night, i don't know whether or not you believe in ghosts/spirits/whatever, but late at night when the coffee shop closes upstairs you can hear someone walking around. "o it's just an old building that has creaks and moans" you say. Ya bullshit, it's totally haunted. If you don't believe me fine. Maybe it is just an old building. And maybe this whole time that you've been reading this blog, a ghost from a time long before yours has crept behind you waiting to spill the blood of a non-believer such as yourself.... Scary huh? I know that you for sure turned around, or at least became more aware of your surroundings. Ironic? i think so. think about. Either way, being more aware of the environment around you is a very good asset. It makes you a very good hunter. Like a lion, or a panther. Except a panther is way faster than you. But a cheetah is faster than a panther, and a lion is stronger than a cheetah. So who would win? would the cheetah just run from battle? probably. Either way if you got into a fight with a cheetah, lion, or panther, you'd be totally $#*%&@. So here's some pictures of work time.... and scary time.

In the Studio - Day 1

Hello friends. We have moved into the studio this week, which is downstairs at an old mortuary. Fitting. I am very excited, as are the rest of the members. I went out and spent my savings on a bunch of studio equipment..blah blah, and now we will be recording a full length album or two. I am hoping to keep up on this blog thing, and just keep y'all informed on our progress. weeeeeeeee. Anyways, this is the first work day, and we are basically laying down scratch tracks for most of the songs, getting ready for Andrew to lay down some fat beats. I will post some pictures, and we may even do a podcast or two. Sounds fun huh? Well stay tuned, keep in touch, and drive safely. Until next time....

a bio of sorts...or...auto-bio. like automobiles.

symmetry/symmetry became a band in september of 2006. the name "symmetry/symmetry" was the title of a demo track daniel did back during the fall of fofs, he called it, "an experiment with recording equipment and new song ideas, nothing serious." that demo track doesn't appear anywhere in any of symmetry/symmetry's current material.

in september of 2006, symmetry/symmetry formed of three friends; joel uram, daniel jones and andrew quackenbush. the question of a bass player was asked, but never seriously considered. though other friends have shown interest in joining the band to play bass, it never felt right to the three amigos to add a fourth member. there is a chemistry and a uniqueness about the three as they are.

during symmetry/symmetry's first rehearsal in late september of 2006, daniel showed the band a song he had just written, "le fin". and by the end of that rehearsal, the band had its first song. after another handful of rehearsals throughout the next few months on saturday mornings, the band had 5 songs written and show ready. le fin, turn to speak, i am not anemic, if/then & sweet as they may(be). symmetry/symmetry's first live performance was on Friday, November 24th, 2006 in Salem, Oregon.

after that first show, symmetry/symmetry consistently played shows monthly until the summer of 2007. in february of 2007, the band began to self-produce what will become their debut release, "love breaks light ep" - (set to release early fall of 2008) - the band experienced a sort of lull between june and september of 2007, only playing one show during that three month span with rehearsals scant as well. beginning again that september, the band returned to playing live shows monthly (over 20 shows in 9 months). In May of 2008, symmetry/symmetry had a track, "turn to speak", included on the very quality "Stereo Salem" compilation double-disc.

the band plans to play through june and then take a break from live shows during the summer of 2008 and begin working hard on a self-produced full-length album.

symmetry/symmetry is determined to create music passionately. their niche is that the song is attached to an emotion, and that emotion is portrayed through the song. the music itself is what's important. the song is sacred. if a song loses its meaning for a time, the band will not play it.

welcome to today's news. daniel never posted, i do apologize. sad story. last night at Ash St. was extremely fun, and arguably our best show to date. we have been practicing lately, writing, and really having fun together. and i think this all makes us more excited about everything we're doing. we're believing in it. ash st. is one of our favorite places, thank you guys.

daniel wet himself upon walking on stage to play guitar in the presence of one of his favorite guitarists ever, nate trueb. we're hoping to play with his new project, tango alpha tango. this would be fun. we're hoping hoping hoping for the ep soon, keep in touch.

a man in his 40's? 50's? i would guess 50's. He saw us at the beanery a few fridays back. i saw him the other day and he told me that we reminded him much of the fripp/eno duo, and old King Crimson stuff. this made me happy, i love them.

so...we're playing with a few very exciting bands on may.31, particularly 'Vanishing Kids'. Their recordings sound phenomenal, haunting and fresh. f'n brilliant.

bloody hell, i'm excited to play with the empty. they're brilliant.

our show at hawthorne was fun. we had 30 minutes on stage, so we played 4 songs and it lasted 29 minutes. 4=29=7.25. that means our songs averaged probably 7 minutes, given any brief talking that went on in between songs. but i don't remember much of that. the northstar session was very nice. thanks to our friends in dirt jake replicas for coming out yet again.

i was talking to my friends Alex and Jen, of Kalaloch, after our show the other night on sept. 29th. it was Sad Panda's final show. Sad Panda was a fun techno/dance/pop type band. Anyway, Jen said that during "lines", which is sometimes in 7/4, she overheard a few 14 year old girls say that they liked this band but sure couldn't dance to it like they could to Sad Panda. that said, my girlfriend and i did have a wonderful time dancing to sad panda.

well that was a fun show. we should have an EP done soon. we have another song to record, but the other 4 songs are mixed a bit. i think we'll probably try to get it manufactured in some way after Christmas, when we have a some money maybe. come check out our shows coming up before then. we've been having fun with some newer songs.

yesterday. i went to downtown portland with my girlfriend and one of her friends. i was sitting outside on the sidewalk while they were inside shopping, i was using the convenient MetroWiFi. it was free to me, while i was sitting on the sidewalk. and i saw that daniel put up two of our songs on the myspace. "sweet as they maybe" and "lines" ---fun.

so i texted mister daniel. yea, we text sometimes. and we decided to do dinner. daniel and his girlfriend were going to meet up with us. so we were planning on going to a neat thai restaurant. well, we met there, but it was closed, and i was pleased to find joel as a surprise, i didn't expect him to be at dinner. well, i just mentioned that maybe we should go to curry in a hurry, sort of as a joke, but becca said it's way good. our other option, just around the corner, was speedy linguine. i wasn't too excited about either. i decided that restaurant's names shouldn't rhyme. it's weird. curry in a hurry/speedy linguine.

well, we got there 10 minutes before they were closed. sad night for some people, but happy night for us. 4 of us ordered the same plate, the veggie saute. joel and becca both got a spicy chicken plate. yummy. italian was good, and we had fun. it took forever for us to figure out when to have practice this week. thursday afternoon? does daniel work? shit. we can't figure it out. will you be at church sunday morning? can i stay the night? are we really free to do the show saturday night? do we really need to practice? joel's never needed practice, according to him.

Hi. It's been a while since i have written a blog. Sometimes things are crazy. ya know? So first off thanks for those of you who came to the show last friday at Cafe Noir. It was a nice day wasn't it? yes it was. So anyways, i promise that there is progress as far as the EP goes. I think that we have a pretty good idea of what songs will be on it, and the mixing is going smoothly for the most part. Right now i am having some hardware issues and am trying to work around that, so bare with me. Soon and very soon there will be a new song on our myspace to listen to. I know that ive said that before, but i'm holding to that. Plus 'soon' is the operative word. Soon, to me could mean something completely different than you. Anyways. We're setting up drum mics. Musicians running late. We're all running late, especially me. Working on "turn to speak". We realized how much the tempo naturally changes at the end; so drastically that we did it in the recording as well. Tweeking drums a lot, being the first song we worked on, it took many takes. But the final outcome is very nice, drumwise. Then we worked on drums for "lines". We ran into the same problem with the tempo changing at the end, so we did it in recording, again. Drums done for two songs, once we figured out the tempo changes for lines, the first time through, I nailed the drum track because i was tired. I wanted to be done. Joel did guitar for both songs, and Daniel started guitar on "lines". I wasn't present for guitar tracking, so I don't know any interesting details about that. Daniel said he might do some mixing tonight. I watched "the science of sleep" tonight, it was very good. we're recording again tomorrow (sunday), day 2.

Captain Hypocrite vs. King Liar

Hi girls and boys. we played a couple of shows last weekend. what a fun time. we played at cafe/noir on friday night, Mike, who does the booking and whatnot is a very nice guy. the downside to this show was that we had some sound issues. well, if you considering not playing with a P.A. a sound issue. i suppose we made it work, we played a few songs anyway, all in all i think we all felt pretty frustrated about the outcome. But we appreciate those of you who came, the support means a lot to us. that's all i have to say about that. The next night (saturday) we played at the Ike Box. We were able to play all of our rehearsed material, which was a treat. It was a good energy, i think we played well, the people at the Ike box were a pleasure to work with, all in all, it was a grand time. Much fun. Thanks also to all of you who came to that show, it was a fun one for us. And a double thanks for those of you who came to both, that's a lot of symmetry to be had in a weekend. as far as recording goes? well isn't that something. i think we are ready. We will probably start working on the demo ep now, which will be lots of fun. fun and scary. at least, i'm scared. Then i think we will pretty much begin working on the full/feature length album. weeeee. so stay tuned.. ok? well anyways i'm probably gona go surf the internet now, there's like millions of hot singles that want to meet me on myspace, so i think it's about time i tended to that. im just kidding. seriously though, there are.

Monday. If I was a football fan, this might be a more exciting day. Actually wait, didn't Monday night football get moved or something? I don't know. Someone let me know. Ok, so nevermind. So I have this block between 11:20-12:45 with nothing to do, like I don't have class. It's a good time to sit and think about something to write. Or to read. Today I chose to write in the blog, I feel I have neglected it for a little while now. That's rude. Not that I have anything of significance to report. Hey, does anyone else notice that Joel doesn't write in this? I think because he's such a big deal, and is like really rich and stuff that he thinks he doesn't have to lower himself to the blog. (ego) I'm kidding, he doesn't know how to type yet. But he's learning, so pray for him, it's been a struggle, and a lot of overcoming obstacles most of his family and friends thought he could never conquer. It's like Frodo taking the ring to Mordor. Or at least the same music plays to Joel's life soundtrack as the LOTR movies. Frodo dies though. Back to business. So like Andrew said, we have quite a bit more material we are learning, which is cool but means we have to start cutting stuff. I suppose we just have to sort of develop what sound is most comfortable or something. Whatever that means. Ok so listen, I have to go to class now, maybe I'll write more later or something. if you come to the shows, and only if you come to the shows...we can share our music with you, which is what we want to do. two benefit shows in a row. the first at cafe noir is for homeless youth. the second at ikebox is for improved equipment in order to increase capacity for larger touring bands. it's nice. we get to play with many of salem's most well-known bands; righteous animal, sad panda, the funhouse strippers, sister ray, etc. it will be fun.

sadly, recording is still in front of us and not behind us. but we've put more focus into writing new music. a few new songs. i think we have enough songs where we'll have to start choosing which songs not to play for our shows. logic logic logic logic...reason reason reason reason. faith. and we're all getting smart at college.

this is the day where we all go back to school. i know that if i had the choice this morning of getting up and going to class, or not getting up and going to class, i would have probably chosen 'not'. but i shan't be complaining of that on this day. afterall, school keeps me from getting addicted to those cocaine pills, and sexually transmitted diseases. how are we you ask? what are we up to you inquire? whoa whoa, slow down, one at a time please. well we have had pretttttty productive rehearsals lately, and have acquired more material which is nice to have. maybe if you come to a show you will understand. i havnt talked to Andrew today, but if i know him, he's probably doing real fancy like. as for joel, well here, say hello to him...

other than that, i beat Zelda:Windwaker before christmas break, so thanks to those of you who were praying for me, i really appreciated it. my next battle will be Matrix:path of neo. so, just keep that in mind. goodbye friends. does anyone read this?

new show, new songs, new love...

we're very honored and excited about being asked to play the show this saturday night with our friends in Hubcap Annie. it will be a very fun time, a few days before christmas, seeing friends...a reunion in many ways.

over the past few weeks, since our dec.2 show...we've had some great rehearsals. last monday, we played straight for over 3 hours. we have 2 new songs to share for you on saturday. and we like each other more all the time...(i suppose i'm speaking for myself on that. but i feel it's quite mutual.)

have cake/eat it too. punk song. i am not anaemic. abortion. if/then. dm. gm.

seeing a band like Gosling play their music so well is refreshing. like a bath. with mint leaves in it, like a mint julep bath. i've never had a mint julep, but i bet it would be refreshing to bathe in one. how do you spell julep? anyhoo... it's just nice to see artists playing music that's so real to them. so inspirational. all of them such phenomenal musicians. i suppose that's all i have to say about them right now, really you just have to see them for yourself. pick up their record. you'll understand. as far as symmetry/symmetry goes, i felt that we played well, at least well-er, my only hesitation upon saying that is i feel i am not as strong as i would like to be, or that our music demands/deserves. i'll get there. boo-hoo. it's so nice to see people coming to hear the music. it means a lot to us. it really does, that's why we are doing it you know. hopefully this Christmas break time we can record an album of sorts, with hopes that my dear friend Guy will assist us in this venture. i figure if i plug him like that in this blog, he will be so guilt ridden, and feel that it is indeed his duty to do so. just kidding Guy, you don't have to if you don't want. but seriously, help us. i'll give you a backrub. i think i'm gonna keep this blog going, i have some more stuff to talk about. so, i'm very obsessed with the Legend of Zelda games, i think i have a problem. really. i am currently playing the Windwaker, for gamecube. it's so fun/addicting. I can't find Makar, the little tree dude again, i'm supposed to teach him a song with my windwaker, as well as someone else, who plays a harp, i don't know where they are. any help would be greatly appreciated. Further, i have a new band you guys should check out, i missed my bus this morning, so i had the opportunity to stand and wait at the bus stop for 45 additional minutes, where in this time i had the opportunity to catch up on some much needed listening. the band is called: Ours. check em' out, really cool stuff. i'm not going to spell check this one. sorry.

we had a great time last night. the black black black are always great. gosling showed up late, but they were nice as usual. and the look were really cool people and had a great sound. it was a great line-up.

Michael had some great things to say to us. first he told me that we had some spirit. we talked about how the majority of people right now aren't willing to free themselves and open up, especially when it comes to something as beautiful as music. it's hard to see a musical artist so deeply into the music, and then a crowd of people standing there watching, with seemingly no reaction, or emotion. Michael then suggested to us that we videotape ourselves playing, in order to see how we interact in performance and where we might improve.

like danny devil said, i'm nervous for the show. but it's going to be very fun. I think 'the black black black' have been added to the line-up, but don't hold it against me if they haven't been...it might just be my mind making things up again. it will be fun playing this show, and then hopefully writing some more... (maybe recording) during the month of december. look for some more shows in january.

isaac carpenter of gosling is one of my favorite drummers ever, i learned a lot from him. it's going to be a great experience to be scared brownpants.e.d. in front of him saturday night. can't wait to see all of you saturday. bye.

things happen fairly quickly.
symmetry/symmetry is a project that happened extremely fast. that is not to say that the music feels rushed, but rather the flow of our writing has felt steady. i am extremely excited about this project as it is definitely a stretch from what we are all used to, and probably comfortable with. it's nice to write without rules sometimes. it's nice to trust. i feel that we each have a great deal of respect for one another, which allows us to also trust one another. our first show is approaching. i hope we are ready, or will be. it's fun to be as nervous as i am right now. i wonder if people will enjoy/get the music. i hope so. i like it.

That's the way good music seems to be. You can't really find music that's completely new...it comes from somewhere. But music does need some qualities of novelty, or it's not art, it's nothing. You have to experiment a little. You must have fun, try something that's ridiculous or over the top. Most importantly, you must feel it. Sincerity.

So, we've had 4 or 5 practices. They've been fun. This last one was really swell. It's nice to have more than 2 songs now. Now we can go through the songs a few times and we've played a few hours and we don't want to stop yet.

Well, we're going to try to have a show before December hopefully, but we'll see. December should be good, we're hoping to record some songs and start playing shows regularly. Daniel and Joel were in a band called 'Fear of Falling Stars', i was their biggest fan. recycled and new.
